So, I finally joined Netflix.

For some reason, since I moved to DC (almost 3 years ago) I really haven't seen too many movies. I've seen so few, in fact, that the selection at Netflix is rather overwhelming.

So, what do you recommend? Is there anything I just have to see? What movies did you really enjoy in the last 3 years? I'm trolling especially for good writing and indy films but welcome all suggestions.

(I have, to my credit, seen the LotR trilogy. :))

Here in DC, we're preparing for a HUGE WINTER STORM! A storm of epic and headline-grabbing proportions! They say we might get FOUR inches! Many a Northern Virginia resident is preparing a storm shelter at this moment. Need toilet paper, eggs, or milk? Forget it! I guarantee that all the stores within a 50-mile radius are bereft of those items.

Personally, in order to shelter myself from these lunatics who think four inches of snow is an earth-shattering deal (yet we shrug at tanks wielding anti-aircraft missiles in the street. Go fig.) I am planning to remain safely ensconced with my dog, lots of yarn, some movies from Netflix, a pile of books, my iPod, and a fresh bottle of Maker's Mark. In the words of our spine- er, fearless leader: Bring 'em on.

EDIT:
District Declares Snow Emergency for 8 am Saturday Morning
Information received from District Department of Transportation

(Washington, DC) National Weather Service is forecasting precipitation in
the form of snow for the Washington, D.C. area beginning early Saturday
morning through Sunday morning. Snow and snow mixed with sleet is expected,
accumulating from 4 to 8 inches in the District.

The District will declare a Snow Emergency starting at 8 am Saturday
morning, January 22. At that time, all streets designated as Snow Emergency
Routes must be clear of parked vehicles to allow snow plows access to the
curb lanes. These routes are marked with red and white signs. Failure to
move a vehicle will result in the relocation of the vehicle by tow-truck and
a $250 fine.
