There's a buzz from both sides of the political spectrum about whether Sarah Palin can (or should) handle being both Vice President and a mom of five children, one with special needs.

Those of us on the left are a little befuddled. We can't very well stay true to our liberal, feminist roots without supporting her choice.

There's a lot of distance between the average working mom and a mother of five children, one with special needs and one with a developmental disorder a pregnant 17 year old high school drop out, being the Vice President of the United States of America. It's not exactly a 9-5.

The right is taking advantage of the trails the baby-eating, witchcraft-practicing feminists blazed. That's fine. The cool thing about liberals is we intend liberty for all. My problem really comes in when they try to co-opt the word choice and make it seem like it's on her own merits or on their hard work that Palin can choose to be a working mom. If it were up to them, she wouldn't have that choice.

Speaking of choice, it really pisses me off that the radical right is praising Palin's daughter's decision and choice to keep the baby. Give me a break. Do you think she made that decision? What kind of choice did she have? Have the baby or be regarded very publicly by mom as a murderer who should be charged with a felony. That's choice as the right would have it, not as the left would.
